Industry awards and competitions: claim your spotlight
More Than Media Outdoor, HYPERVSN Authorised Reseller in Hong-Kong have recently won in the “Best Use of Technology” category of Event Marketing Awards 2020 for the Magic Wonderland project, which represents the implementation of HYPERVSN into an art installation – huge congrats!!
This recent win inspired us to look in more detail at why enter awards, where to find them and what makes a good entry.
Why enter awards?
Winning awards is not only about the internal motivational boost for the team – it can take how your business positions the product on the market to a whole new level.
Industry awards normally gather all your primary competitors and are judged by the top local and international talent. It is a great way to learn the latest trends, test the product against the industry benchmarks and get inexpensive PR.
Entering competitions and awards was the primary way of promoting HYPERVSN and building credibility with customers at an early stage. All in all we have received 15 titles – here are the major ones:
- 2012 HYPERVSN founders secured 3 out of 4 investment deals at the iconic British business TV show BBC’s Dragon’s Den.
- 2014 Top 3 British Innovations of the Year Award.
- 2015 UK Tech Start-up of the Year at Pitch to Rich. Endorsement from Richard Branson.
- 2017 Top 10 Innovations of CES-2017 by Mashable and USA Today.
- 2018
- HYPERVSN Wall becomes the UK Digital Signage Product of the Year (AV Awards).
- Financial Times included HYPERVSN founders into the list of 100 European Changemakers.
- 2019
- HYPERVSN Wall becomes the Display Technology of the Year award in fierce competition with Samsung and Absen (AV Awards).
- Gold at the renowned Edison Awards in the category of ‘Studios and Holograms’.
- Technological Innovations Award from the Netherlands British Chamber of Commerce.
Where to find awards?
Based on our experience, looking for awards is constant work in progress – the International Awards List by Boost Awards can be a great way to start though.
The key-words we search by include: AV / digital signage / display / technology / business / retail / event technology awards.
When doing research of your own, aim to apply for the local awards and competitions – HYPERVSN HQ will take care of the global ones.
Some other tips are to:
- have a spreadsheet with all the deadlines, fees etc. to keep track of the awards you want to apply for;
- keep the text of all the entries you submit – makes applying faster and more efficient further;
- keep the logos of the titles you win for easy navigation when adding them to the website, presentations, leaflets etc. – here are ours.
What makes a good entry?
- Make sure the footage you submit is of outstanding quality – you could refer to this Audi case for reference.
- When submitting a use case, opt for: the most recent ones, those that feature an international brand and the ones that have data – whenever possible.
- Refer to Info for entries folder for the information for your applications. Naturally, you can also find a lot on the HYPERVSN website and blog as such.
